High potential and gifted education

Some students demonstrate advanced potential in areas such as creativity, critical thinking, leadership or sport. At Bellevue Hill Public School, we identify these strengths early and provide meaningful opportunities for students to be challenged and inspired. Our programs and teaching practices help high potential learners flourish and achieve their personal best.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school identifies and supports students with advanced learning needs. It ensures that students who show high potential in any domain are challenged, inspired and provided with meaningful opportunities to grow.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Students at Bellevue Hill Public School engage with HPGE through classroom practice, whole-school programs and state-wide initiatives. This ensures every learner has the chance to develop their strengths, explore new interests and reach their full potential.

In our classroom

At Bellevue Hill Public School, we recognise and nurture the strengths of every learner. High potential and gifted education is woven into everyday classroom practice from Kindergarten to Year 6. Our teachers use evidence based approaches to identify student strengths and provide learning that is appropriately challenging, engaging and meaningful.

In our classrooms, students experience rich learning opportunities such as inquiry based tasks, flexible grouping, extension activities and creative enrichment projects. Teachers adjust the pace and depth of learning so students can think deeply, solve problems and explore ideas with confidence. Our modern learning spaces support collaboration, independence and curiosity.

Our goal is to stretch and inspire students in ways that build both capability and confidence. Whether a child excels in a particular area or across multiple domains, we tailor learning to help them grow, thrive and reach their full potential. Opportunities include:

  • Differentiated tasks that adjust pace, complexity and higher-order thinking.
  • Formative assessment to monitor growth and adapt learning.
  • Advanced learning pathways, including accelerated or compacted content.
